Frequently asked questions
Every game has a certain set of questions everybody asks. Lets see:
When and where will the story begin?
The map covers an area ranging from south California to north Arizona and a small piece of Mexico. The Year is 2139.
How big will the game be?
Roughly the same size as Fallout 2 - about twenty green circles on the map. (God save us - translators note)
Which Fallout looks more like BGE?
The first or the second one? Judging by the atmosphere I would say definitely Fallout 1. It doesn't break the timeline and anyway, the team and most of you wanted that.
How about the world map, random encounters?
Randomly generated encounters (UFO, whale from The Guide) are replaced with fixed locations similar to Ghost farm or Golgotha. However, we are going to add several more really random encounters (caravans, fights etc).
Will there be any reference to Fallout?
Of course, the game will be related to its ancestors. Even a location from F1 may be included but...
Is BGE going to have more dialogues?
It will be definitely very “talkative”, we have much more text than we ever expected, but that changes from location to location, not many people live e.g. in the northern parts of Mexico. One promise – you won't see another Diablo or Oblivion with guns.
Will you force the player to either follow the Light or the Dark path?
We will do as much as possible to allow both Luke and his father to have their own stories.
Will we see ghouls, supermutants, robots, etc?
Yes for ghouls and robots, unfortunately a no for supermutants (and Jet) - have a look at the date.
How about a car?
You should be looking forward to getting in a car and in a train.
Brotherhood of Steel?
We don't know yet.
Enclave?
Enclave is dead, baby, Enclave is dead... Well, we don't want to include Enclave in our game because we are pretty scared of it. Maybe it will show up as a reference to the peacetime.
Will there be any new graphics?
Absolutely YES. We are only limited by the laziness of our artists.
The End? Happy End?
I think our end won't be happy or enthusiastic. Have you seen The Threads (from 1984)? Than you probably know what a nuclear war is. No Hollywood.
I think that I know something useful and want to help!
Have a look in the section Join us.
If you finish BGE, will you try to sell it or just upload it somewhere on the net?
Making a lot of $$$ is our dream but, even if it was legal, who would buy a 2D game these days? Imagine it: brand new Fallout! 2D, supporting 640x480 resolution and the newest DirectX 5.0!
Do you plan any sequels?
Probably not, the engine will be really old then and we may start something of our own.
What is the donation button about?
We have no profit (and don't intend to have any) from BGE. However, we have to pay for our server (which is not just basic webhosting, we have several fairly resource-hungry special things that help us a lot - Trac and svn) and we hope this may help us cover at least part of the costs. Donations won't definitely make us rich, they are directly dedicated to pay server costs (as is the advertisement) and they may constitute about 10-25% of the money that is necessary (team members donate the rest).
